Portraits
In Photography I, I was required to capture photos of my classmates for the fourth project called “Portraits.” These four portraits are of my former classmate, Michael Collings.
I played with the aperture settings, the lighting, the angle of the camera, the shutter speed, and the distance from the subject. I enjoyed photographing him.
Out of the 12 portraits that I shot of Michael, I liked these 4 the most, especially the third photo. The contrast between the darkness and the light make the photo interesting.
I was required to photograph 2 more classmates for the “Portraits” project. I chose Sophia Ho as my second model, and I liked how her photos turned out.
I played with the aperture settings, the lighting, the angle of the camera, the shutter speed, and different poses. I enjoyed photographing her as well.
Out of the 12 portraits that I shot of Sophia, I liked the second photo. The brightness of her red hair contrasting from the darkness of the light in the portrait makes the photo seem ethereal.
For the last portion of the “Portraits” project, the third and final classmate I chose as my model was Bao Lam. There are a multiplicity of his photos that are interesting.
I played with the aperture settings, the lighting, the angle of the camera, the shutter speed, and photographed in different areas of the classroom..
Out of the 12 portraits that I shot of Bao, I liked the first and second photos. The first photo in the dark room with the red light resulted in being in motion. The second photo brings an interesting light in the center of his face.

Landscape
This photo was taken in the backyard of my house during the afternoon where I witnessed a multiplicity of fluffy clouds that made an interesting form or shape. This photo was taken for a project in Photography I called “Exposure.”
This photo is a time exposure of the ferris wheel near Union Station/downtown in Kansas City captured in motion. This photo was taken for a project in Photography I called “Exposure.”
This photo is a close-up of a vibrant orange-red, yellow-green leaf from a tree that is in my neighborhood. The veins of the leaf can be seen clearly, and this photo was taken for a project from Photography I called “Project 3 Self Assignment.”
This photo is of the moon surrounded by many clouds, which seem to form interesting shapes around it. Although it wasn’t a gloomy night, the photo looks mysterious. This photo was taken for a project from Photography I called “Project 5 Self Assignment.”
This photo is of the shadows created by the suns rays reflecting on the table outside of my backyard. The redness of the deck with the addition of the shadow and the white blanket of snow create an interesting composition. This photo was taken for a project from Photography I called “Project 5 Self Assignment.”

Pinhole Images
This is a silver print of the pinhole image that I created using a pinhole camera. A pinhole camera can be described as a small hole made with a pin on a tin can where sunlight can enter and capture the image of an object in a few seconds.
This photo was taken outside of the Fine Arts Building at UMKC of a pinecone. The image was originally printed vertically, and it does not look, at all, like a pinecone. Instead, the viewer could interpret the image as someone’s eye, and if viewed vertically, it can be viewed as the face of a gorilla or a one-eyed creature.
This is a silver print of the pinhole image that I created of a leaf. This photo was taken outside of the Fine Arts Building as well. The form of the leaf as well as the veins of the leaf can be seen in the center of the photo. However, others may see other shapes if they see this image quickly.
